There are various types of adhesives, including water-based adhesives and hot-melt adhesives. Hot melt adhesives usually do not have a pungent odour when cooled and fixed and are considered a relatively environmentally friendly option.
A layer of cushioning material, such as latex or high-density foam, is added to the top layer of the mattress, and then the layers of raw material are sewn together using the needle-piece method. This step may not require additional adhesive, but a sewing machine is necessary equipment.
It should be noted that although adhesives play an important role in mattress production, in recent years, with the increase in environmental awareness, more and more manufacturers have begun to explore the glueless process to reduce the release of formaldehyde and other harmful substances. For example, some high-end mattresses use physical fixing methods (e.g. ultrasonic sewing process) instead of adhesives to achieve a more environmentally friendly and healthy sleeping environment.
